Sony US headquarters now San Diego

October 20th, 2004 · No Comments

Sony Electronics CEO Howard Stringer just announced the final part of the relocation of their US headquarters from New Jersey to San Diego.

As part of the relocation, Sony Electronics has moved several business groups and support functions to San Diego, and now the Rancho Bernardo campus will be the largest U.S.-based location with 2,600 employees.

Sony already had a large presence in San Diego County with substancial manufacturing and engineering facilities.

“Sony’s presence in San Diego dates back more than two decades, to 1972, when we began manufacturing televisions at the Rancho Bernardo facility,” said Hideki (Dick) Komiyama, president and COO of Sony Electronics. “This move will bring further synergies between engineering, marketing, sales and manufacturing, in addition to creating opportunities between our sister companies in California such as Sony Pictures, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Music.”

It should be noted that other major companies are either located in San Diego or have subsidaries here. They include Intuit, Qualcomm, SAIC, Kyocera, Hewlett Packard, Intel and many others.
