Baby boomers influence on the real estate market

January 17th, 2006 · No Comments

The “me” generation, otherwise known as the baby boomers, are going to continue influencing marketers and the real estate industry for decades to come.

By 2025, approximately 35% of the nation’s population will be 50 or older, compared to just 28% in the year 2000.

According to the latest study by the U.S. Census, the oldest of the baby boomers, the generation born between 1946 and 1964, are turning 60 years old. Our two most recent presidents, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are among the many Americans celebrating their 60th this year. Other well-known celebrities reaching this milestone include Cher, Donald Trump, Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton.

Interesting facts :

There were approximately 78.2 million baby boomers as of July 1, 2005.
About 7,918 people turn 60 everyday ~ that amounts to 330 Americans every hour !
About 50.8 percent of baby boomers are women.
The number of baby boomers living in 2030 is projected to be about 57.8 million; 54.9 percent would be female. That year, boomers would be between the ages 66 and 84.
