Downtown San Diego condo update

February 6th, 2006 · No Comments

Nat Bosa is Downtown San Diegois Towering Force

Nat Bosa proudly hangs his name on six towers in downtown San Diego, including Horizons at First and Market, Discovery at El Cortez Hill, Park Place on Harbor Drive and The Grande on Pacific Highway. Two more high-rise condos, the Electra at Broadway and Kettner and The Legend just beyond left field at Petco Park, are under construction ~ and there are more to come !

Over 10 years ago Hong Kong investors bought up all of the prime property in Vancouver, British Columbia and started the condo craze. Bosa followed this by buying up all of the best harbor-view sites in Downtown San Diego, many of which were parking lots. He started buying up all of San Diego’s prime harbor-view sites in downtown San Diego, many of which were parking lots.

Today, Bosa Development along with the Padres ballpark are two of the most influential forces reshaping downtown. Bosa was the driving force that helped convince developers to gamble on downtown.

Downtown San Diego is just a small part of Bosa’s resume. They have built more than 60 projects in the Vancouver area and in Calgary. The company also has projects in Irvine and Maui and they have just bought land in San Francisco for 1,690 units.

Nat Bosa got his start in the business swinging a hammer. He left school at the age of 16 - three years after his parents moved the family from Italy to Canada where he joined his brothers in the framing business. Bosa left his brothers’ business in 1986 to start his own development business and has been a driving force ever since. His instinct for building projects in uncanny, it’s like he has a third eye and sees potential like not many others.

In the next two years alone, developers are adding 17 towers with 2,300 units. This huge growth has some real estate experts worried that the market in primed for a severe slowdown. Bosa continues to remain optimistic and thinks that the East Village has developed faster and further out than he would have expected by this time.

Bosa strongly believes in his projects and has no fears as the best locations and those with a view of the ballpark will always attract buyers. Bosa believes that the expensive units are not the problem, however, the smaller units that were supposed to be affordable have gotten far too expensive.

San Diego is entering into a maturing process that will take some time. There is certainly more room in San Diego for growth and product. Bosa feels that when you look at what has already been built here and what is currently under construction, that it is nothing compared to the growth that has occurred in Vancouver.
