San Dieguito Lagoon - restoration not development

May 12th, 2007 · No Comments

As a real estate agent, I drive this county up and down. I spend more time in my car than in my own house. It is always interesting to see the way that San Diego is changing. It is constantly morphing and I get the pleasure of driving through the middle of it, no matter where “it” is.

So when I saw tons of dirt displaced in the San Dieguito lagoon, I panicked. Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for housing. Hey, I sell houses. But displaced dirt is a sure sign of building and the lagoon stretching east from the Del Mar Race track has always been one of my favorite views in San Diego. In such a popular area, I enjoy seeing stretches of marsh in the thick of civilization.

Well, word around the water cooler is that the area is being restored to marshland instead of being developed! Honestly, I am giddy about it. The project is described in The Coast News, and should be finished by 2010. Not only will it make one more beautiful area for San Diegans to enjoy but it will also beautify many a North County resident’s commute, since they will only be moving at 5 mph anyway!

I can’t help but wonder (it is the real estate fanatic in me) how this will affect home values in the three areas it impacts – Carmel Valley 92130, Del Mar 92014 and Solana Beach 92075. I can only imagine it will make these areas even more desirable. Search for homes in these areas. Contributed by Kelly Clark, TeamToner buyers agent.
