Hiking Trails of La Jolla, California

One reason so many consider buying a home in La Jolla is the shear beauty of the surrounding countryside and the options for enjoying it.

La Jolla is known for its sunny beaches and intriguing coves, endless boutique shopping and dining. For many it’s a beautiful place called home. Yet many residents of San Diego County don’t know some of the true hidden treasures of the La Jolla area and that is its hiking trails and paths. The La Jolla trails are blessed with a view of the endless horizon of the ocean, beautiful natural vegetation and the sounds and sights of the sea.

Torrey Pines is a great place to experience La Jolla hiking. For a nominal fee you can pay to park at the top of the hill or you can park for free at the bottom and hike your way up to the head of the trails. There are over 7 trails to choose from ranging from .75 mile to over 1.5 miles. The trails are relatively moderate to hike, with small changes in elevation of the paths depending on which you choose. Be sure to bring the map with you if it is your first time, the trails tend to join each other and you can end up a bit lost. The good news is the trails are all relatively short, so should you merge on to a different trail you will find your way back in short time.

Another fabulous option for hiking is located just below Propect Street when coming from Torrey Pines Road. There is a dirt path off to the right that allows for a quick yet beautiful hike above the cliffs. You can view the seals as they play in the waves, the native birds and the lush vegetation. Once you are through with the hike you can take the sidewalk down Torrey Pines Road into La Jolla Shores. I like to stop for a bite to eat and a cold drink before heading back up the hill. It makes for a lovely day that you can enjoy solo or with family and friends. Next time you are thinking of something different to do, try hiking in La Jolla you are sure to enjoy your day!
