Baby Boomers and Social Security

October 19th, 2007 · No Comments

kathy_small.jpgWho is Kathleen Casey-Kirschling?? It’s not a name that everyone knows, but the day she was born marked the first birth of the infamous “Baby Boom”.  She even helped write a book about the Boomers: More than a Bathroom Guide to Baby Boomers - A historically accurate guide to the past 60 years of the Baby Boomer Generation.

The massive “Baby Boom” occurred after World War II creating 80 million new Americans here in the U.S. during 1946 to 1964. Fast forward to today - they are now beginning to hit their glorious retirement years and Kathleen, a former 7th grade teacher  will be the first to become eligible for those benefits from her generation when she turns 62 next year.

An estimated 10,000 people a day will become eligible for Social Security over the next two decades - the demographics of the nation will never be the same again. It does pose the question however; will the next generation be able to pay for it?
